Breaking Dawn is a Big Disappointment

Just like the book, the movie was just as bad. I never wanted to watch the movie anyway. I already know how terrible it would be. But I have already started watching the saga, and as bad as it is, I have no choice but to get suckered into the you-have-to-watch-the-sequel-because-you-have-no-choice scheme.

After watching it, I realized that nobody should suffer the same fate as me. I wasted my money and my time. My eyes had to endure seeing all that crap. I am writing this blog to give sound advice. I know that piracy is a crime, but I do recommend to just download it in torrent and watch it just for the heck. It's a bigger crime to watch this in the movies. I tell you, watching Breaking Dawn is as bad as being robbed.

Sexiest Pussy Cat Ever

"Only a cat with a death wish would steal the magic beans from Jack and Jill."

Obviously, Puss In Boots, has a death wish, but we know that cats don't die easily.

Antonio Banderas is the voice behind Puss In Boots, and personally, I think he is the sexiest cat ever. Puss In Boots is even sexier than Tigress in Kungfu Panda. He's cuddlier than Garfield. And he is much more appealing than the Pink Panther. We first saw Puss In Boots in Shrek, and after four installments of Shrek, he is now back in his own movie.

I was able to watch this online and all I can say is that it's a very good movie. I can't wait for the DVD to come out, so I could watch it in high definition. If you fell in love with Puss In Boots in the Shrek movies, then you will easily fall in love with him again. There were a lot of witty scripts in this movie that will leave you laughing out loud. So if you like funny movies, and if you want to see another side of Antonio Banderas, then this Dreamworks animation will surely be one of your favorite movies this year.

Real Steel

If you like robots and boxing, you are going to love Real Steel. Real Steel is a story of a boy named Max who was able to find a robot in a junkyard. His father, Charlie, is a frustrated boxing champion. Together, they trained the robot (named Atom) and brought it to robot-boxing tournaments. Real Steel gives us lessons about perseverance and belief in oneself. It is a good movie to watch with the whole family. I'm sure even if you're not a boxing nor a robot enthusiast, you are going to appreciate this film.

Severus Snape, The Boy Who Loved

I watched the final installment of the Harry Potter series today, and I am a bit sad because it was already the end. I have read all the Harry Potter books, but somehow, watching it on the big screen has given it a new meaning for me. I didn't quite get Severus when I read the book. But the movie changed all that. Maybe Adam Rickman is just a great actor, or the movie has made me visualize Snape's true character better. Either way, Snape is someone everyone would hate to love and love to hate. He is and will always be remembered as The Boy Who Loved.

Bedtime Stories

As far as I could recall, I don’t think I could remember my parents reading me a bedtime story before I went to sleep. What I do remember is that I used to watch a lot of TV at night until I felt the fatigue slowly crumble by defenses and leave me knocked out in minutes. Bedtime stories aren’t really part of my culture. At a young age of three, I already knew how to read. I was the one who picked my own bedtime story, and then I read the book myself. However, books never made me sleepy, nor had they affected my dreams when I was young. Whatever I know about bedtime stories, I learned it from the boob tube and through reading. No one really told me anything, nor did anyone sing me a mere lullaby. My parents were both busy with their work. I never got to hear any bed time story from them. I have no bitterness, whatsoever, but it would have been nice to at least remember being tucked in by either my mom or my dad, and at least recall a bedtime story they told me before I went to sleep. They could object to my sentiments if their memory hasn’t yet failed them and they could prove that I have infantile amnesia. However, that is not the case. Even if I try hard to backtrack the events in my childhood, I can’t remember any bedtime story. Not even one. I watched Walt Disney’s Bedtime Stories (starring: Adam Sandler, Keri Russel) with my kid last Sunday and both of us enjoyed the movie. Skeeter (Adam Sandler), a hotel handyman, was asked by his sister to babysit for his nephew and niece for a week. He has been a handyman for the hotel for 25 years and he yearned nothing more but be recognized for his efforts and be rewarded by the tycoon to be the manager of the hotel. During his stay with his sister’s kids, he told them bedtime stories closely related to his life. Skeeter would use fictional characters and storybook-kind of settings to give color to his stories. The children modified some parts of his stories and by some strange coincidence, the bedtime stories he told the kids would come true the next day. At the end of the film, Skeeter got what he wanted and lived the life that he was supposed to live. The film showed the concept of positive visualization. Through stories, we could bring to life all the hidden desires of our heart. By believing the stories we made, we unconsciously make our own wishes come true. Skeeter has done that through creating bedtime stories for the kids. Although in real life, our positive visualization doesn’t really happen in a too uncanny way, there are some instances that what we wish for happens to us unexpectedly through weird circumstances. I guess my parents didn’t tell me bedtime stories from their own experiences because they are way too accomplished to ever dream of anything else. Positive visualization wouldn’t work on my mom because she has always been a doer and not a dreamer. I have never seen any literary creativity from them so it was understandable. Now I have my own son to worry about. One day, he will ask me to read him a bed time story. Being an English teacher, and being someone who supports reading literacy, I hope I will not fail him. I pray that I wouldn’t be too busy preparing my lessons for the next day or too tired to even tuck my son in bed and read him a goodnight story. If ever I have memory gap and that my parents would contest that they did really tell me a bedtime story when I was young, I would take this as a challenge to make the bedtime stories that I’m going to tell Ken be memorable so he would not forget them.

Bolt

I don't think there was ever a time when we didn't have a pet dog at home. We had several and I forgot the names of the others, but the longest time a dog stayed with us was nine years and his name was Bebot - a black half Rottweiler-half Japanese Spitz. He was a very fierce dog, very much protective of us. He was the one we loved the most because he has rendered us a very good service. Bebot was such a good guard dog.

Today I watched Bolt with my son. The animated movie was about a dog named Bolt (John Travolta) who thought he had super powers. Ever since Bolt was young he was brought in to the world of television as the lead role in a series that he thought was real. He and his human Penny did a lot of extraordinary stuff in the set of the production which made Bolt believe that he had powers such as super bark, super strength and a whole lot more.

One day, Bolt got accidentally packed and got shipped to New York. He got separated from his human friend Penny. While he searched for Penny, he met an alley cat and assumed that the cat was an evil minion of The Green-Eyed Man. Bolt threatened the cat and practically forced her to bring him to Penny. The alley cat was so confused but in the end, she went with Bolt because she feared for her own life as well. On their way they met a hamster who was a huge fan of Bolt. Bolt thought that the hamster was clever because he has observed him in everything that he did. Later on, the cat made Bolt realize that he was a product of television. All the powers that he thought was real were just fake. With this realization, he almost gave up looking for Penny but his devotion to her has made him go interstate to finally get to her.

Dogs are really devoted animals. Unlike cats, dogs have such devotion to their masters to point that they become over protective. Bebot was like that with us. No stranger could come near us with Bebot around. He will surely attack. Bolt was also like that. Bolt loved Penny so much that he did all he can to protect her. Dogs are wonderful creatures aren't they? I'm sure my son would soon ask me for a new puppy. I guess he would want someone like Bolt. I can't blame him though. Bolt was so adorable.The movie was very entertaining, and also it tells us the values of friendship, loyalty, dedication and faith in one's ability. Bolt is a film for the whole family. So far, it was one of the best animated movie I have seen.

Absolutely Positive

I watched Twilight last weekend and about three things I was absolutely positive: First, Rob Pattinson doesn't really wash his hair. Watching the movie has allowed me to scrutinize whether the rumor was true. Indeed it was. Rob's hair seemed to me like it was so messy and sticky, but since he was playing the role of Edward Cullen, he could pull off the "greasy" look and make it look cool. If he would be asked what is the #1 anti-dandruff shampoo, he would probably shrug and say, "Uhm, I really don't know." It was quite a disappointment to not see massive flakes of dandruff on his sleeves. I was kind of expecting to see specks of white on his black shirt. Well, there is such a thing as video-editing. Maybe the special effects people just passed the flakes of dandruff into snow. I think I remember that there was a scene where it snowed in Forks. Maybe that wasn't really snow. Maybe it was Rob's . . . (nevermind) Second, Rob Pattinson does not really justify Stephenie Meyer's description of Edward Cullen, but, personally, I think he aced the role and he managed to capture the hearts of Twilight fanatics. There was this part when Bella asks Jessica and Angela who the Cullens were, and when Edward enters, the people in the cinema silently gave out a little groupie scream: "Eeeeeeeeeeeeee." I could only roll my eyes and counter with my own disgusted remark: "Eeeeeeeeeewwwwwww." If they only knew that Rob Pattinson doesn't wash his hair (because according to him, the hair washes itself), they might have reacted differently. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably smitten with . . . Jacob Black (Take note: Jacob Black, not Taylor Lautner) Alright, even from the start, I wasn't really for Edward. Even if the actor playing Jacob doesn't even come close to the Jacob that I had in mind (I would still rather have Steven Strait), when he (Jacob Black as Taylor Lautner) first appeared with Billy Black at the time Bella moved to Forks, I blushed like crazy! I couldn't help but smile. I dunno! Maybe because Taylor Lautner was playing the role of a Quileute American Native. And considering that he has Native ancestry, I was smitten. Everytime the movie shows Jacob, I feel my cheeks flush. It is psychotic, I know. But there is something about American Natives that drives me nuts. So, to sum it up, Rob Pattinson is a great artist and a good-looking actor except he doesn't wash his hair, and Taylor Lautner really looks like an American Native and I am smitten by him! If only Rob Pattinson was Irish, I would love him too, even if he doesn't know the world's anti-dandruff shampoo.

Waiting for Twilight

First of all, I want to watch Twilight, mainly because I am a sucker for love stories. I have watched film adaptations of love stories that I like (i.e. A Walk To Remember, Stardust, The Notebook, etc.,) and I have never left the cinema disappointed. I figured that I might go crazy over the Twilight movie adaptation because I loved the book so much. . . . . . Which reminds me of my second reason . . . I want to watch Twilight so I could compare the characters to my own preconceived notion of how they look like in my head when I read the book. I want to see if the characters the director picked were enough to justify the characters in my already Twilight-programmed brain. Months before the anticipated movie, I have prepped myself to several trailers, and several TV interviews of the characters who play the lead role. Another reason why I want to watch Twilight is to confirm whether Rob Pattinson doesn't wash his hair. Maybe by watching the movie, I could see flakes of dandruff on his sleeves that the special effects team and the movie editors failed to erase in post-production. (See the video for an actual interview about Rob admitting that he doesn't wash his hair. Ugh! Gross!) The most important reason why I want to watch Twilight is to see for myself if the movie critics were right in giving it lower than the average rating compared to the rufus the Twilight fans have been making. Based on 148 reviews collected by Rotten Tomatoes as of November 29, 2008, the film has received an overall approval rating of 43%, with a weighted average score of 5.3/10.In describing the critical consensus, it stated: "Having lost much of its bite transitioning to the big screen, Twilight will please its devoted fans, but do little for the uninitiated." I have read that Twilight was a box office hit! Thanks to the millions of fans who eagerly anticipated and supported the movie. Twilight grossed over $7 million in ticket sales from midnight showings alone on November 21, 2008.The film is third overall on online ticket service Fandango's list of top advance ticket sales, outranked only by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and The Dark Knight. It grossed $35.7 million on its opening day, the biggest opening day gross for a non-sequel and non-summer movie. For its opening weekend in the United States and Canada, Twilight accumulated $69.6 million from 3,419 theaters at an average of $20,368 per theater. As of December 2, 2008, the film has received $143,670,148 worldwide. So far, I still have no idea how the movie would affect me. I would still have to wait two days more before my best friend and I watch it in the big screen. The reviews that I have heard from people that I know who have actually seen the movie were quite varied. Some say that it was just an "ok" movie. Some said that it was awesome. However, I think I am inclined to believe that it was just mediocre based on the reviews I have read. Anyway, I still have to see it for myself. So far, the soundtrack is great. At least, the soundtrack wasn't a disappointment. Listening to it makes me anticipate the movie more. I just hope that in two days, I wouldn't leave the cinema feeling that I have just been suckered to watch the most pathetic film ever. I hope that through the on-screen charisma of either Edward or Jacob (American Natives rule!!!), I would feel that watching Twilight was worth the money. But for now, I could only wait . . .
