When I was in college, I wasn't very much into alternative music. I usually listen to pop songs, mostly sung by boy bands and groups of girls. Then one fine day, I was introduced to someone who shared to me his taste in music and my life had never been the same again. I remember that this person lent me a tape of his favorite songs. I remember that there were Sarah McLachlan songs and Rage Against The Machine, but one song that I listened over and over to was this song from the original soundtrack of 10 Things I Hate About You. It's called Your Winter by Sister Hazel. Every time I listen to this song, I remember him. I remember Michael. I remember the guy who watches the same TV shows that I like ( Felicity, Dawson's Creek, Ally McBeal), who buys from the same record store where I buy, and who has the same friend whom I consider important. We had many things in common actually, but I was a jerk, and I pushed him away. When I look back to that time, I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I let him in. Sadly, I wouldn't know. We're not even friends anymore.
Your Winter
by Sister Hazel
The grey ceiling on the earth
Well it's lasted for a while
Take my thoughts for what they're worth
I've been acting like a child
In your opinion, and what is that?
It's just a different point of view
What else can I do?
I said I'm sorry, yeah I'm sorry.
I said I'm sorry , but for?
If I hurt you then I hate myself
Don't want to hate myself, don't want to hurt you
Why do you chew your pain?
If you only know how much I love you, love you
Chorus
I won't be your winter
I won't be anyone's excuse to cry
We can be forgiven
I will be here
The old picture on the shelf
Well it's been there for a while
A frozen image of ourselves
We are acting like a child
Innocent and in a trance
A dance that lasted for a while
You read my eyes just like your diary,
oh remember, please remember
Well, I'm not a beggar, but what's more
If I hurt you, then I hate myself, don't wanna hurt you
Why do you chew your pain?
If you only knew how much I love you
I won't be your winter
I won't be anyone's excuse to cry
We can be forgiven
I will be here
