Another Hallmark Holiday

Father’s Day is just another Hallmark holiday that was invented so that people from all over the world would have the initiative to buy greeting cards. I used to make a big deal out of these Hallmark events – i.e. Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Grandparent’s Day and the like, but now that I have become a grump, it matters less to me. Supposedly, I should be buying my father something today, or perhaps greet him with a warm Happy Father’s Day greeting, but I am in no mood to greet maybe because I don’t believe in holidays anymore. What’s important is that I appreciate him while he is still alive. And if I choose not to, or choose to be indifferent . . . that means that my father is either physically dead or he is already dead in my heart and I don’t care about him anymore.
